If you are interested in obtaining more information, please give our office a call at (215) 366-1122.

Shorts, skirts, dresses, bathing suits; there are reasons upon reasons why summer is the season to bear it all. Of course, at times, it may seem like there are reasons upon reasons to avoid going bare. We are our own worst critics, and when the warm weather approaches, the mirror becomes a weapon we use against ourselves. “That vein looks too prominent.” “These spots are so noticeable!” It becomes all too easy to convince ourselves covering up/grinning and bearing it in the hot, hot heat is better than risking revealing our self-proclaimed “flaws” to the world.

Unfortunately, as we age, these things that we pick apart about ourselves — veins, marks, brown spots, red spots — tend to increase in numbers. Eventually, it can get to a point where all hope may even seem lost. System overload.

At Abington Aesthetic & Laser Medical Center, you will find that this is not the case. Help is on the way. Dr. Evan Zelinger performs various non-surgical, non-invasive procedures to reduce the appearance of what you may deem “unsightly”*. Laser vein removal, pigmented lesion removal, brown spot removal, red spot removal: these are all possibilities at our facility.

Laser Vein Removal:

At Abington Aesthetic & Laser Medical Center, Dr. Evan Zelinger offers a non-invasive, non-surgical spider vein treatment. Unfortunately, this treatment is only for the thin, purple spider veins — it is not for the larger, thicker varicose veins. If you are unsure as to whether or not your veins are viable candidates for the laser vein treatment, you are encouraged to come in for a consult with Dr. Evan Zelinger, so that he can see your areas of concern in person — in fact, a consultation is recommended for all prospective patients, prior to any treatment.

The laser vein treatment is relatively quick. Generally, the procedure takes 15-30 minutes*. Of course, the treatment can be lengthier, depending on the number/size of veins on the affected area*. The laser vein procedure is not painless. Patients do report a certain level of discomfort/pain. However, it is not excruciating, and most patients get through the treatment without any kind of medication.

The laser vein removal procedure works, because it causes the blood temperature at the targeted area (the area with the veins to be removed) to elevate. This elevation of temperature is intense enough to cause coagulation. Simultaneously, Dr. Evan Zelinger will use a cooling system (called “SmartCool”) during the treatment that continuously cools the epidermis (the outer layer of the skin) to cool/protect it.

Patients generally see improvement in spider vein removal in as little as one to three treatments*. Sometimes, new spider veins may crop up, and be cause for additional laser vein removal*. Treatments are administered at eight week intervals*.

Since the laser vein treatment is non-surgical/non-invasive, downtime is not really a factor. After having the vein removal treatment, patients are encouraged to stay out of hot tubs and avoid rigorous exercise for at least twenty-four hours after their laser vein removal treatments*. Most normal activities can be resumed immediately after treatment, though*. That being said, patients are also cautioned to be vigilant about wearing, at the very least, 30 SPF sunblock (not sunscreen) during their post-laser-vein-treatment period. Even better, it is recommended that patients avoid prolonged sun exposure all together, for at least four weeks following laser vein removal procedures.

Brown Spot Removal (and the like):

Brown spots, pigmented lesions, red spots, sun damage, sun spots — the names are endless, and endlessly problematic/annoying. At Abington Aesthetic & Laser Medical Center, Dr. Evan Zelinger has multiple solutions to this array of problems.

The term “IPL” is becoming fairly commonplace in the world of treating certain skin issues.

IPL stands for “intense pulse light”. Dr. Evan Zelinger uses IPL as a non-invasive, non-surgical solution for brown spot removal. Dr. Evan Zelinger also uses IPL to treat uneven skin tone(s), and as a non-invasive, non-surgical treatment for sun damage. Along with IPL, Dr. Evan Zelinger also uses a machine called the “Alexandrite 755” which is used as a non-invasive, non-surgical treatment for similar conditions as the IPL, just on a smaller scale/area.  Like laser vein removal, these non-invasive, non-surgical procedures for brown spot removal, pigmented lesion removal, sun damage, and the like, are not immensely painful. There is discomfort, and a degree of pain. However, it has been described as pain akin to that of a rubber band snapping against your skin repeatedly. Doesn’t sound too bad, right? Generally, a prospective patient can expect to have up to five IPL/Alexandrite treatments for brown spot removal, and the like. Occasionally, there can be less, but five treatments are to be expected. After treatment (nearly immediately after treatment actually), the treated brown spots (and such) will appear darker/more unsightly for a time. This discoloration of the brown spots/pigmented lesions will last for up to three weeks. So, it is not recommended to go forth with the treatment at a time when you have plans wherein the more intense looking brown spots/pigmented lesions will be problematic. That being said, the post-procedure spots can be covered with makeup. It is key after non-surgical, non-invasive brown spot removal/pigmented lesion removal that patients follow the treatment instructions provided by Dr. Evan Zelinger exactly, and to completion. For four weeks after the brown spot removal, or pigmented lesion removal, patients must stay out of the sun. As is the way with laser vein removal, patients who absolutely must be in prolonged sun exposure should wear no less than 30 SPF sunblock. It is also important to note that prior to these non-invasive, non-surgical skin treatments, patients should avoid prolonged sun exposure for four weeks. Failure to do so could cause discoloration of the treated area. So, that’s four weeks before and four weeks after of avoiding sun — patients are encouraged to plan accordingly. My hope is that after reading all of this, you realize that there is hope. Non-surgical, non-invasive laser vein treatment is out there. Brown spot removal, and pigmented lesion removal treatment is out there. No downtime. It is little-to-no risk, and large reward. If you have more questions, concerns, or are ready to start your own personal journey to meet all of your skin needs, feel free to call our office at (215) 366-1122 to find out more information, or book your consult with Dr. Evan Zelinger today. We look forward to hearing from you!
