Botox for Excessive Underarm Sweating

Many people experience a lot of sweating, especially during periods of very hot weather or extraneous activity. However, if you sweat through deodorant, pour sweat on normal days, and have trouble with your arm pits areas being constantly wet, you may suffer from severe underarm sweating, otherwise known as severe primary axillary hyperhidrosis.

This condition is thought to affect more than one million Americans – and not everyone may be aware of it. Many people may believe that their sweating is “normal”, and other people experience the same. However, if you’re constantly embarrassed in social situations by your armpit sweating, or all of your clothes are discolored with hard to remove “pit stains”, you may be suffering from severe underarm sweating.

Don’t worry – there’s help. Botox (onabotulinumtoxinA) is approved for usage in severe underarm sweating sufferers. Botox has been proven to reduce embarrassing underarm sweat for up to a maximum of two years. During a clinical study, after the first treatment, 82% of participants saw up to a 75% reduction in underarm sweat*. In total during the two year study, 94% of patients only required four or less Botox treatments to control underarm sweating.*

How does it work?

Botox is a protein that has the ability to temporarily “block” the secretion of a chemical that is responsible for telling your sweat glands to produce sweat. By blocking this secretion, Botox can effectively reduce sweating by turning off the signals needed to produce the excess sweat. Botox injections are made very shallowly just under the skin, where it stays. Botox can effectively treat excess sweating conditions in small areas.

While Botox has been shown to block excess sweat in other areas as well, Botox has not been tested or approved for any other area besides underarms for excess sweat.
